A friend of mine Chris, who has been in the Amusement Business for over 20 years sent the below feedback in 11/2007. Chris calls me Andy, because years ago, many people called me that name.
I
like being around positive Christian people that do not go over board with their beliefs and Andy has been one of those people. I try very hard to convey to other people I meet how many good/great people that we have in this business. Of course every business/profession has there bad ones, but we seem to be under more scrutiny.
Whether It's Andy or any business person or employee that is not in our environment conveying a positive attitude is much needed.
Andy is missed on our route by most of the general public he has had contact with.
Andy has left a great impression with many of the Carnival visitors over the years. He has always been very outgoing, he has played the most wholesome music (without being too load) on the midway, he has blessed many people with Free stuff such as signed polaroid pictures of him with the Children, as well as other things. It is truly not the same when he isn't around!
The authorities are wanting the Carnival to have their employee's back ground checked and not having the independent concessionaires do the same thing. We get our help the same way they do as independents do and they have just as much chance as we do to get stuck with a bad one from time to time. Having to raise our prices so much. Every side of our business has been hit with inflation one way or another but some of the people we work with go a little overboard. It kills me to have someone come up and complain about the price of a $3.50 hamburger when 15 minutes ago I just gave a refergeration repairman from their town a check for $1200.00 for a few hours work! I would like to see changes in the help situation which happens to be our/my single biggest problem. I'm afraid that it will take decades and genuine depression to change things now. I would like to hire Andy if I could afford to, but he is worth a few hundred a day, but I can't afford to pay that much! The Carnivals would really benefit from having more people of true faith, but only if they be discrete and use good judgment when trying to share the gospel, and know when to back down. |
